Many health insurance plans cover nutrition counseling sessions.

You are already paying for insurance, why not see if they cover the service?

To check coverage, call the 800 number on your insurance card. Ask the representative if you have coverage for telehealth nutrition counseling. If they ask for a CPT code, you may provide them with 97802 & 97803.

The representative may ask for a diagnosis code - you can tell them the visit is coded in ICD-10: Z71.3 (Dietary Surveillance and Counseling). This can change if your provider sent a referral with a specific diagnosis (Diabetes, Hyperlipidemia), in which case, we will use the code associated with that diagnosis.

You may also ask the insurance representative how many visits are covered per year. This can vary widely from 0 - unlimited visits.

Insurance Coverage

*It is your responsibility as a client to call your insurance provider to verify benefits and ask about coverage prior to meeting with our dietitian. New River Nutrition Services, LLC does not verify your insurance coverage prior to or after your scheduled appointment.*

  • Medicaid

  • Aetna

  • BlueCross BlueShield

  • United Healthcare

  • Humana

In the meantime, Allison can generate a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

Attention: Not all individual plans cover nutrition services, even if your insurance is on the list above. Follow the above steps to contact your insurance to verify coverage before scheduling an appointment.

If your insurance is considered out-of-network, you will need to pay the self pay price for nutrition counseling at the time of service.

Allison will happily provide you with a Superbill (an itemized invoice that you submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement). We cannot submit the paperwork on your behalf, so you, the client, must submit to your insurance. You can call your insurance to verify how reimbursement works with your plan.

What if I don’t see my insurance listed above?
